Optimize queries, indexing, and database resource utilization. Manage backups, point-in-time recovery, and disaster recovery. Implement database replication, high availability, and failover strategies. Plan database upgrades, migrations, and safe schema changes. Maintain database security, access controls, and auditing. Automate database operations using Bash, Python, or similar tools. Troubleshoot database incidents and perform root-cause analysis. What success looks like (First 90–120 Days) You’ve developed a clear understanding of the production database estate across AWS, GCP, and SITE. You understand the existing database architecture, operational workflows, monitoring, and recovery procedures. You’ve built strong working relationships with the database team, Cloud Engineering, SRE, and development teams. You’ve identified the most significant risks and improvement opportunities across availability, performance, backup, and recovery. You’re independently handling assigned database administration and troubleshooting activities. You’ve reviewed backup configurations and started validating recovery procedures for critical databases. You’ve identified gaps in database monitoring and alerting, including replication lag, WAL contention, autovacuum, and table bloat. You’re contributing to database performance improvements and operational documentation. Critical database restore tests have been completed or are progressing against an agreed recovery-testing plan, with gaps documented and corrective actions define
